Carlsbad Caverns

I went to Carlsbad Caverns National Park today.

Wow!! Such a beautiful place.

I don't have all that much to say about it, because I don't know anything interesting to tell you about caves or caverns and the many different types of formations within them.

It took a lot longer to get there from Roswell than I expected. Unless I misread the clock or something, it took me almost three hours. It is only 103 miles, but about the last 50 miles are under construction and limited to 45 MPH.

The temperature in Southeastern New Mexico today was around 103-107F, so I was delighted to find the caverns in the 50-60's temperature range. What a relief!

I was pretty tired after my cave explorations, and was really starting to wilt in the hot, hot heat on my way back to Roswell. Driving back took only about two hours, plus the time it took to stop for iced coffee at McDonalds. After cooling off in the A/C cooled restaurant and finishing my iced coffee, I SO did not want to go back into the heat!

But, wouldn't you know it, my ride back to Roswell from there was the best ride I've had since Pensacola! In spite of the heat, I was comfortable, sporty, singing my song and laughing at the wind!

What a fantastic day it was!

OK. That's all. Here are the pictures already...

If you want to see a few more photos, check out my Facebook Photo Album. This is a public link, and does not require FB membership.

p.s. To all the folks out there who wear glasses...
My glasses fogged up something terrible while I was in the caverns. If you are going to the caverns, apply a defogging treatment to your glasses before you go in!

  1. These are awesome photos! I'm going to show them to Jenna - she's really interested in caves these days.
