There is a great line in an episode of the original "Bionic Woman" TV show, where Jaime goes to a south american country in a helicopter for a rescue operation. When the helicopter crashes enroute, the pilot (played by Andy Griffith) walks around the damaged helicopter, scratches his head, and says:
"Not great, Summers! Not great. But any landing you can walk away from is a good one!"
That sort of sums up how I feel about my accident.
Both of us involved walked away uninjured! That's the first and most important thing.
Second, my motorcycle was not too damaged to drive. The other driver called a tow truck, but the tow truck driver popped her bumper back on, and she ended up driving her up the street to a local garage.
The CHP (Motorcycle) Officer said it was the best kind of accident to have. No injuries. Minimal property damage.
I have to agree!
It was all kind of surreal...
I was making a left turn from the Coast Highway into downtown Point Reyes Station. And suddenly I saw something white in my peripheral vision, approaching my right side case...
And I was thinking "That bumper is too close." and "It looks like it's going to hit me."
Then I felt the jolt, and it was more like "Oh no. I'm hit. I'm hit."
"But I'm still up..."
"Well, I guess I don't have to panic and fall down..."
By that time, I had parked my bike, dismounted, and was walking toward the other driver, telling her I was OK.
When I turned around, I saw something like this:
I think she was terrified when she saw she hit a motorcycle. Tons of MC's stopped momentarily as they rounded the corner to ask if I was OK.
The sheriff who responded complimented me for not dropping my bike when I was hit!! I'm sure that prevented additional damage to my bike.
Update: my motorcycle repairs cost $3,000+. Paid for by the other driver's insurance.
Not only was I uninjured, but I got away without a scratch or a bruise!!! I did have to jimmy-rig my broken side case on with bungy cords.
If you want to see the close up shots of the damage, you can view them on my Facebook photo album.
lovin' it on 2 wheels
